WHICH ARE THE 5 LESS KNOWN PLACES THAT ONLY AN ISCHITAN KNOWS?
The island of Ischia offers a wide variety of activities and routes to do. From the most well-known and famous places, such as Mount Epomeo, the highest peak of the island and the Aragonese Castle, to the less known and breath-taking ones, which escape the tourist mainstream. So, if you intend to discover the most unusual and little-known places, here is the guide for you.
THE BELVEDERE OF SERRARA FONTANA
One of the most beautiful and panoramic places on the island of Ischia. For all those who decide to admire the island from above, it is an excellent compromise. From here you can enjoy a breath-taking view of the village of St. Angelo and the nearby coast with the Bay of Sorgeto and the Promontory of Punta clarified. On clear days it is also possible to see the neighbouring island of Capri and the Sorrento peninsula. You can also stop and admire the panorama while sipping a good coffee, a granita on the hottest days or a nice aperitif.
How is it possible to reach the belvedere: the place can be easily reached both by car and motorbike, parking along the road. Or by bus with the CD e CS line both departing from the Ischia Porto station, Trieste and Trento square.
CAVASCURA THERMAL BATHS
The ancient thermal baths of Ischia. Located a few meters from the Maronti beach. These are quarries, inside a valley, dug into the rock. The place has remained intact, here you will still find the ancient waterfalls and caves of the past. In this area the water continues to flow at a temperature of 90°. Cavascura is the result of a millenary process of rock erosion.
A day of relaxation at the ancient thermal baths of Cavascura. An open-air spa
The baths have small showers and caves dug into the rock, where it is possible to dive and bathe in the boiling waters. At the spa it will also be possible to undergo skin treatments, with the application of beneficial mud. The thermal mud is in fact a natural substance obtained from the contact of the thermal water mixed with the clay of the rocky walls of the place. At the Terme di Cavascura it will therefore be possible to carry out inhalations of thermal water, baths, saunas, and applications of thermal mud.
The benefits of Ischia clay
The clay and thermal water of Ischia are particularly suitable for the treatment of arthritis and osteoarthritis, but also for healing and purifying the skin. These, in fact, also perform a purifying action thanks to the peeling that can be carried out through circulatory movements during the application of the clay. For this reason, it’s also indicated for the treatment of pathologies related to the skin such as acne and dermatitis.
How to reach the ancient thermal baths of Cavascura: it is possible to reach them both from the village of St. Angelo and from the Barano area. You will therefore have two options on foot or if you prefer faster with the taxi boat. Once you get off the taxi you will notice a rivulet of water that flows into the sea, you must follow it, arriving at your destination at the spa.
THE FUMAROLES
It is a very special place. We are located exactly on the Maronti beach, the longest beach on the island. You should know that it is in a specific point of the beach, the one that is closest to the village of St. Angelo. In this area the water below the sand reaches a temperature of 100°. The locals used to cook chicken, potatoes and eggs covered in tinfoil right under the sand. The area at that point is delimited by a cordoned-off area. Throughout this area, even while bathing, you will notice that the water is warmer than the rest of the Maronti beach.
SORGETO
For all those who like to swim all year round, Ischia also offers this wonderful opportunity. The bay of Sorgeto is in fact one of the most loved places although it is not known to everyone. These are pools formed by the rocks in which the hot water from the thermal spring mixes with the cold water of the sea. The temperature of the water inside can reach 37°.
How is it possible to reach Sorgeto: The place is free and can be reached on foot via the clarified path from Punta. Here you will find 250 steps but believe me they are worth it! Don't forget to bring non-slip shoes with you as the place is made up of rocks and rocks. Alternatively, in the summer, it is possible to reach this place with the taxi boats that connect from the nearby village of St. Angelo. You can also opt to arrive by car or taxi arriving as far as Punta Chiarito, thanks to the indications for Panza and Sorgeto. Once you get there, you will find a paid car park where you can leave your car parked. The place can also be reached thanks to the buses with lines CD, CS, 1,2 or 3; be aware, however, that they will leave you about 1km away from your destination.
THE OLD PUNTA MOLINO PRISON
If you decide to reach the centre of Ischia from the village of Ischia Ponte or vice versa, along the coast, you will find yourself walking through a narrow alley, and it is here that the ancient Molino prison is located. In this place full of charm and history it is possible to admire the exhibitions of various artists or stop for an aperitif or a coffee. From here you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Aragonese Castle and the fishermen's houses. It really is a perfect setting both for relaxing but also for taking some beautiful photos. Furthermore, in this point the sea water is very shallow and crystal clear for this reason you will notice small children bathing.
